Do I need a K-ETA in 2026?

Nationals of visa-free countries apply for a K-ETA online before travelling to Korea. Some nationalities are temporarily exempt until 31 December 2026, and travellers aged 17 or under or 65 or over on their entry date do not need one.

  • The temporary exemption runs from 1 January to 31 December 2026 (KST) for the nationalities on the exemption list. When you scan your passport during the application, an exemption pop-up tells you whether it applies to you.
  • Exempt travellers can still apply if they want K-ETA benefits such as not filling in an arrival card, and the fee is charged.
  • Apply only on the official site (k-eta.go.kr) or the official K-ETA app. The app adjusts the photo size for you.
  • You also upload an image of your passport bio page. Both images must be JPG and under 20 MB.

K-ETA photo FAQ

What are the K-ETA photo requirements?

A colour JPG under 20 MB showing your full face from the front, filling about 75% of the image, with your eyes open and looking at the camera, and no hat, scarf or sunglasses (K-ETA FAQ).

What size should a K-ETA photo be in pixels?

The official site sets no pixel size, only a JPG under 20 MB. Sajinpass makes 413×531 px (3.5×4.5 cm at 300 dpi) with the head at about 75% of the height. That size is our choice, not an official rule.

Can I use my passport photo for K-ETA?

Yes, if it meets the conditions. The K-ETA FAQ says the photo does not have to be the same as the one in your passport, so a passport-style photo that meets those conditions can be uploaded. Upload the photo file itself, not a picture of your passport page. The Ministry of Justice makes the final decision.

Can I wear glasses or a hijab in my K-ETA photo?

Religious coverings such as a hijab are fine if your whole face from forehead to chin is visible. Sunglasses are not allowed. The FAQ sets no rule for clear glasses, so if you wear them, make sure there is no glare and your eyes are clearly visible.

Do I need a K-ETA in 2026?

Not if your nationality is on the temporary exemption list, which runs until 31 December 2026, or if you are 17 or under or 65 or over on your entry date. The application shows an exemption pop-up when you scan your passport.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. Face detection, cropping and the file are all made in your browser. Your photo never leaves your device.
